Advanced Industrial Hygiene Services, Inc. is certified by the USEPA as a lead-based paint activities firm and is qualified by Bruce Marchette, CIH, a certified Risk Assessor. The USEPA certification is only for the purposes of Section 402 of TSCA. AIHS uses a Thermo Scientific Niton Model XLp 303A X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analyzer to measure lead concentrations in paint with the additional capability to screen soil, dust and air filters for lead. The Niton Model XLp is a hand-held field portable instrument with the ability to rapidly and accurately pinpoint lead hazards in the environment as well as on consumer products. Used primarily to assess paint on surfaces, it can determine in seconds whether paint is positive or negative for lead as defined by the USEPA as greater than or equal to 1.0 milligrams per square centimeter. The instrument’s Performance Characteristic Sheet (PCS) documenting no inconclusive readings allows no false positive / false negative readings and no need for substrate correction. The instrument also has the capability of encrypting and storing collected data into memory for later download into a PC and the provided software allows for reviewing the collected data including spectrographs of each sample (such as shown below).
Advanced Industrial Hygiene Services, Inc., can provide lead based paint inspections for real estate transactions compliant with the residential lead-based paint disclosure program (section 1018 of Title X) as well as lead risk assessments should the need arise.
