A.D. Greer

A.D. Greer was an Austin painter whose renderings of Western landscapes are praised for their luminous quality and remain popular despite being painted in a realistic style.

He was born in 1904 in Pondcreek, Oklahoma and spent his 93 years in pursuit of life and all it had to offer. He lived in Austin since 1972 and for many years held informal classes at his studio on Saturday afternoons. A.D. knew how to handle light, colors and composition, one of the best landscape painters ever seen.

His works were featured in two Sears Catalogs, as well as, in Calendars for Best Printing in the years 1988, 1992 and 1998. He did commissioned work for Charles Lindburg, Will Rogers, Governor Allan Shrivers, Michael Halbouty and Frank Irwin. His painting "Cattle Country" was purchased by Lyndon B. Johnson and exhibited at the White House during his presidency. On November 1, 1980, A.D. was made an Honorary Texas Ranger.

Works were exhibited throughout the United States in galleries such as Allen Art Gallery, Taos Art Gallery, American Fine Arts Gallery, Laguna Gloria Art Museum, Sherwoods Gallery, Florence Art Gallery, and he received two first place blue ribbons at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame Art Exhibition in 1979 and 1980.

His paintings speak very well, perhaps what they tell us is that LIFE, is what you make of it.....

A.D. Greer passed away on February 9, 1998 at the age of 93.
